Velenosi Prope Montepulciano
About the Producer:
The Velenosi winery was founded in 1984 by the will of two very young entrepreneurs, Angela and Ercole Velenosi. The heart of the company is located in the historic city of Ascoli Piceno, the farms extend among the hills that surround the splendid valley of the Tronto River, which thanks to its clayey and fertile soils, has always been suited to the cultivation of vines. Montepulciano is the most important black grape variety of the central Adriatic coast. At Velenosi, the cultivation of Montepulciano represents without a doubt the most important grape variety by virtue of its loyal, unmistakable link to the territory and to the highly rooted traditions.
About the Wine:
Vines are grown on medium-textured with abundant gravel, cultivated using cordon-trained and spur pruned training system. Manually harvested in small cases, mid-October. After destemming, grapes are conveyed into small stainless steel fermenting tanks which facilitate the delicate breakage and movement of the cap during fermentation. This system assures a greater and more homogeneous contact between must and skins, increasing the extraction of polyphenols. Maceration periods can exceed 4 weeks. After fermentation, wine is placed in large barrels for 12 months of aging.
Organoleptic Notes:
Intense, impenetrable ruby. Pervasive and complex bouquet with nuances of morello cherry, kirsch, ripe blackberry with hints of rain-soaked earth, ground coffee, tobacco and licorice. Intense on the palate and a rounded mouthfeel. Good structure provided by the corpulent tannins and lingering juicy finish.
Pairing: Hearty meats, pasta dishes and pizza.
